Why Shred Confidential Waste?
Under the Data Protection Act, companies are responsible for the security of personal information. In October 1998 the revised, amended and strengthened Data Protection Bill became law - and it goes much further than the 1984 Act.
The new Act covers not only personal data held on computers but also data recorded and held in manual filing systems. Personal data means any information relating to an identified person. Any information gathered with the intention of being put into any retrievable system is subject to the Act, even before it is put into the system.
For responsible companies it is vital that when data is finished with, it is destroyed in a safe and secure manner.
The Data Protection Registrar's guidelines are quite specific:
"Personal data held for any purpose or purposes shall not be kept for longer than is necessary... it will be appropriate to dispose of documents by shredding..."
Any personal details that become public could lead to the offending company being prosecuted for breaching its legal liability.

The Process
There are various containers available for confidential collections. All containers have a lockable lid and mutliple security features and can be tailored to suit your corporate identity.
Our transport teams are security screened to BS7858 and will be wearing standard LRL uniforms. Paper for example is taken away in a lockable container and shredded on the same day as collection (in a contained environment in accordance with BS 8470:2006). The shredded paper is taken to a paper mill in our bio-diesel Carbon Neutral vehicles for recycling. Please take the time to look at our linked pages under this section for total peace of mind where detailed explanations about our security shredding and procedures are highlighted.
